What Drugs To Learn About In ACLS Classes

By Ruthie Calderon

There are many medical courses you should be able to take up these days. Some of them you can take in physical universities while there are others you can take online. During the ACLS classes in Houston, you will be taught more about various intravenous drugs. Here are some of the intravenous drugs you will get to familiar with in your course.

Adenosine. It should be natural for you to learn more on adenosine. You need to know about the said med simply because it has the anti-arrhythmia properties you need to treat your patients. This is specifically used for treating stable supraventricular tachycardia.

Amiodarone. This is another intravenous med that you can use when you have patients with the v-fib or heart that actually does not empty with contractions similar to mild quivers which are not sufficient for sustaining life. The v-tach patients also enjoy the benefits of using amiodarone. The V-tach patients are those patients suffering from a heart that pumps way too fast than what their body can keep up with.

Atropine. You should be able to help more people when you are familiar with atropine. The atropine is an intravenous med which is basically used for treating conditions such as bradycardia. The patients suffering from the condition called bradycardia are those with low heart rates. The purpose of administering atropine is to block one's vagus nerves.

Epinephrine should also be introduced to you during class. This is one of the IV drugs used for increasing the cardiac output momentarily. This can then decrease blood flow to the limbs. When the blood flow to the limbs is significantly decreased, ten the blood output from one's heart will consequently increase too.

Lidocaine. This is another addition you can add to your knowledge of intravenous meds. If you know more about lidocaine, then you can find it useful for treating the ventricular arrhythmia. This will then help your patients with the irregular heart rate. With the lidocaine, you can prevent the oxygenated blood from being circulated into the patient's body. An alternative for this is procainamide.

Procainamide. You will find this as a good alternative to lidocaine when you have run out of the said intravenous med. This is another anti-arrhythmia meds that patients can be administered with. It has a very effective result when used to counteract a number of arrhythmias. The procainamide is actually as effective as the lidocaine.

Magnesium sulfate. When you have patients that are suffering from low magnesium, then this is the medication that are good for them. Of course, patients with arrhythmia can also be administered with the said intravenous med. It can be a useful medication against torsades de pointes, which is technically a rare ventricular arrhythmia. Magnesium sulfate is good for this condition.

You will also get to know more about vasopressin. This is the kind of intravenous drug administered so that the cardiac output can be significantly increased. It is also the kind of intravenous drug that is often used to improve the circulation to the person's vital organs. It is definitely an important drug to be familiar with when it comes to a particular medical condition.
