The Etobicoke Volleyball League May Put The Town On The Map

By Ericka Marsh

Nothing puts a town, city, or country on the map for many people quite like a sports team. This can become even more true during the period just prior and during an Olympic year, wherein athletes from many places come together. With the addition of this particular beach-centered pass-time as an event, it is possible more people will learn about the success of Etobicoke volleyball teams as they train the athletes who shall pursue the Gold.

A city within a city in Ontario Canada, this region practices their beach sport on the banks of Lake Ontario. Up until now they have received no real notoriety, and have not made much of a name so far. However, should their Leagues find themselves handed over as Olympic hopefuls from a suburb of Toronto, then the already modernized and state-of-the-art facilities they boast may get an even shinier new look.

Their primary claim to fame, as it were, is that their streets have some of the finest shopping venues in Toronto. They love to see high-traffic tourism during the months prior to the Holidays, as many people go there to get the Holiday shopping in. The people of this borough work to maintain a pleasant atmosphere for visitors to enjoy while they see the sites, shop, and hopefully visit on of their state-of-the-art sports training centers.

Anyone from very small boys and girls right on up to teens and young adults can find training facilities, coaches, and teams here. They provide high-caliber training to show how seriously they take their game. Even prior professional players hop into it and provide formal tips and training to young athletes who wish to be their best.

More than the small communities see benefits when sports puts them on the map. Young people all over the world become familiar with places they never knew existed. It becomes a fun and exciting way for young people to learn the geography of the world around them.

In this particular event, a great deal of attention has been paid to the female teams, and this has had a positive impact on the numbers of girls involved in sports. As a rule the media only covers sports played by all-male teams, but this is changing. Young women are seeing that college scholarships and Olympic rewards may be available to them.

Sports have often been an equalizer for members of other races and cultures, and now it is becoming a gender equalizer as well. In recent years we have been seeing more and more women and minorities taking their place in Olympic history, and achieving the fame and notoriety that it affords. More than ever young women are being encouraged to join sporting organizations.

Sports has always taught leadership, and now more than ever young people need the physical fitness. However, for many people it means so much more, and everyone knows how the Olympics themselves have always been a time-honored tradition bathed in beautiful ritual. The world needs more team spirit and sportsmanlike behavior, and it is always a welcome sight when a new town is added to the list.
